The Best Coffee Maker in the World

This Dutch-made coffee maker — the Technivorm Moccamaster — has been considered the best coffee maker in the world for fifty years. It makes a perfect 32-ounce pot of pour-over coffee, every time, in four to six minutes, and keeps it hot in a double-wall aluminum carafe. It’s an investment. But your coffee will be excellent for decades.

TLDR: Buy this if you want the best coffee in town to come out of your kitchen. It’s also easy to connect to a smart-home system so you can have Alexa make the coffee in the morning.

This coffee machine, I’m not gonna lie, will set you back some serious coin. (It’s currently $472.44 on Amazon.) I bought mine over ten years ago when I got tired of coffee machines in the sub-$100 range that lasted only a year. This one has made a perfect pot of coffee every day since then and is as healthy as the day I opened the box.

It’s a simple machine, hand-made from excellent materials by expert craftspeople in the Netherlands.

Pour water into the water basin, put ground coffee in a filter in the basket, and turn it on. It heats the water, every time, to the perfect temperature, pours it over the grounds at the perfect speed, and does nothing else. I have blown many minds with the coffee that comes out of mine. And I hate drinking coffee in cafes because, to be honest, it all sucks.

And because it is a “dumb” machine, meaning it isn’t powered until you turn the power switch on because it doesn’t have a clock or any extras, you can easily connect it to a smart home system, set the coffee up the night before, and yell, “Alexa, make coffee!” in the morning to start it brewing. All you need is a smart plug — I like these inexpensive Kasa plugs — to set that up.
