Take Tic-Tac-Toe to Another Dimension

Gobblet is a multi-dimensional “connect four style” game that is a real brain workout.

TLDR: Tic-Tac-Toe is fun for one minute, Gobblet is fun for hours and gives your brain a serious memory workout.

There’s something deeply satisfying about a game that’s this simple: “Try to get four of your pieces in a row while blocking your opponent from doing the same”. It only takes about one minute to teach the rules. The first time I played, the game only lasted a few minutes. But it was fun. And, once I realized that I had to pay attention, the next match wasn’t over so quickly.

The thing about Gobblet is that the pieces are in four sizes that stack Russian-doll-style as you play. I can block my opponent’s four-in-a-row by putting my own color on top of hers. But, if I later forget that I did that and use that piece for another move, I will reveal her color below and that could be curtains for me.

Similar to Hive, the silence that falls across the Gobblet board is a testament to how brain-engaging this game is. The fact that two players can be completely engrossed in minutes makes the game an instant classic. We take Gobblet with us to the pub to play, where we quietly battle over and over, laughing over every sudden victory, while pouring local beers down our necks. Inevitably, someone asks where they can buy a set because we’re clearly enjoying ourselves–and they had fun watching us.

Also, it’s just a nice wooden game set that is timeless, classy, and satisfying to touch.
